Highway below is noisy. Drier chinquapin oak forest continues up slope across small drain. Across river are spectacular limestone cliffs.;Steep south slope on and below an outcrop of limestone. Steep gumbo slopes are difficult to climb when wet. Forest with large chinquapin oak, white ash, sugar maple, hickories, and walnut. Very little regeneration below the tall shrub layer. Herb layer is lush, dominated by dense patches of twin leaf and blood root. Burnt stump in plot.
Representativeness
Upper end of dense twinleaf patch with limestone outcrop and several large chinquapin. Downslope are areas with even thicker twinleaf with more ash, tulip poplar, and hickory in canopy.
